Sri Lanka is located in Indian Ocean, in south Asia, off southeast of India. It has an area which is slightly larger than West Virginia. The total area consists of 65,610 sq km from which 64,740 sq km is land and 870 sq km is water. With no land boundaries its coast line is 1,340 km.
Sri Lanka has a climate of tropical monsoon. They are northeast monsoon which is from December to March and southwest monsoon from June to October.
Sri Lanka’s terrain is mostly low, flat rolling plains with southern part mostly covered by mountains and hills. While the lowest point is Indian Ocean, the highest point is Pidurutalagala with 2,524 m.
Natural resources in Sri Lanka includes of graphite, lime stones, gems, mineral sand, phosphates, clay and hydro power.
