Like many other countries, Sri Lanka’s cuisine is also influenced by the colonist and foreign traders, mostly from Indians.

Sri Lanka’s cuisine mainly consists of rice, which is consumed daily with a wide range of spicy curries. Kiribath is a famous rice dish, which means milk rice. Rice can also be found in special occasions and are the favorite dish for Sri Lankans for their lunch and dinner.

Sri Lanka’s cuisine consist a wide range of spicy curries that are made from meat, fish vegetables and even with fruits. A classical meal consists of a main curry made from meat, chicken or fish and several other curries made from vegetables.

Along with rice and curries, Sri Lanka’s side dishes include of pickles, chutneys and sambols. The most famous sambol is coconut sambol. Coconut and coconut milk are found in most of the Sri Lankan dishes.

A typical cuisine also consist a varieties of desserts. Wattalapam and types of kuvan are known sweet dished in Sri Lanka.

However, Sri Lankan dishes do not follow an exact recipe. Dishes cooked by people from different regions have a difference in the taste and are cooked slightly different.
