Travelling in Bhutan can be done by foot or road. Some of the villages are not connected by roads, making the only modes of transport by foot or using riding ponies. If you’re on a normal tourist visa your tour operator will provide all your transport. If you’re working on a government project or are an Indian national you will have to rely on public transport or you can hire a private car.
The total roadways in Bhutan are 8,050 km from which 4,991 km are paved and 3,059 km are unpaved. There are two airports in Bhutan from which one is with paved runways and the other is with unpaved runways.
